For a limited time we are in for a very special treat. The water levels at Dapu Lakeside Park are nearly to the max. You can drive right up to the edge of the lake, and the forest becomes a mystical wetlands, with the wooden camping platforms just barely on the lakes edge. The Hexagon Pavilion also becomes an island, and for a short while, we get to jump off the third floor.
Currently the lake stands at 229.52 meters, just half a meter shy of the maximum 230. Real time water level information can be checked at this link: https://eng.wra.gov.tw/
When I visited on Thursday, the water levels were 229.34. The water on the 2nd floor of the pavilion was ankle deep, and the water over the edge was plenty deep for jumping into, and would be fine until about 229 meters, or up to the last stairs to the 2nd floor of the Hexagon Pavilion.
As always though, it's important to physically swim out and check before you jump anyway. It will be convenient to check as well, since just getting to the pavilion when the water levels are above 229 requires a 150 meter swim anyway.
